About Appendix audio guide to the Central Botanical Garden

01.03.2024
The audio guide for the Central Botanical Garden “Botal Garden Minsk” was developed on the initiative of the Joint Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (OIPI NAS of Belarus). The work continued from June to September. Maria Slesareva, an intern of a junior researcher at the Laboratory of Speech Recognition and Synthesis, said:

- We had the goal to cope with the work for the specified period, since in September there was a festival of sciences in the botanical garden and it was great to present the finished product for this day. Audio guide allows you to conduct a tour of the garden and learn about flower collections, “Island of the arts”, an ecological path, greenhouse with tropical and citrus plants and many more.

– We made a web version and two mobile versions on iOS and Android. The web version was written in Python, iOS in Swift and Android in Kotlin. All three versions have the same functionality: a map on which you can lay the route to any selected object in the botanical garden, a general list of objects (at the moment there are 37), information about each object, photos, text and voice descriptions. The application is available in three languages (Russian, Belarusian, English), voice acting also in three languages. Today we continue to cooperate with the botanical garden and proceed to the second stage of the project. We plan to increase the list of objects (about 10 new ones will appear), we will finalize the visual representation, make flyers, QR codes that lead to the web version and mobile applications. The second phase of the project will begin in March and will last until September.

The application is available for free download.
