In which areas artificial intelligence is successfully used in Belarus
05.02.2024
Artificial intelligence is a question that concerns not only scientists, but also ordinary citizens for many decades. During this time, AI has come a long way, moving from the sphere of science fiction to the real field of application. Today it covers almost all economic activities. At what stage in our country is the development of artificial intelligence, in which areas these technologies are already used, the correspondent of "R" learned from the Deputy General Director for Scientific Work of the Joint Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus Sergey Kasanin.
One of the international audits-sultivities that owns a network of companies around the world predicts an increase in global GDP by $ 15.7 trillion by 2030 thanks to the development of artificial intelligence. According to her forecasts, by this time China will become the world’s leading AI power with an increase in GDP by 26 percent, this figure will grow by 11 – 12 percent in the largest economies in Europe.
According to experts at Oxford University, by 2026, artificial intelligence will write an essay that will go beyond a person written, will replace truck drivers by 2027 and will perform the work of the surgeon by 2053. AI will also surpass people in all tasks for 45 years and automate all jobs within 120 years.
Experts, says Sergey Kasanin, assure that the introduction of AI has accelerated the pandemic and this impulse will continue in the future:
— According to surveys, most of the world’s companies (more than 50 percent) have become faster to implement AI due to the pandemic, with 86 percent of respondents claiming that AI is becoming a “main technology” in their company. At the same time, almost three-quarters of business leaders assess the role of AI after the pandemic and the co-cary crisis positively. The majority of companies surveyed invest in AI (90%) and agree that these technologies contribute to business development. However, companies have not learned to benefit from AI. And this is not the only problem point in the field of artificial intelligence.
In our country, the largest centers of competence in the field of AI - the National Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian State University, the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio Electronics.
— In particular, in 2015, on the basis of the state scientific institution "The United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" and the state scientific institution "Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" was organized by the Interdepartmental Research Center of AI, which unites the efforts of specialists from different fields to create advanced and competitive artificial intelligence technologies, - says Sergey Kasanin. - We are also talking about the implementation of research projects in the field of AI, implemented both within the framework of state programs and with the involvement of non-state investments.
According to the expert, an important driver of the development of AI technologies in Belarus is industrial parks that offer special economic conditions for high-tech companies.
— Using of artificial intelligence systems affects the infrastructure of political, economic, social and other relations, its content and the vector of development,” the scientist is convinced. AI is an essential element of the IV Industrial Revolution.
To some extent, this vector of development of socio-economic systems is enshrined in all member states of the Commonwealth.
Indeed, almost all CIS countries are developing legislation in the field of AI. However, the movement is uneven. That is why states agreed: in the field of artificial intelligence, a single regional legal regulation is necessary. At the same time, according to Sergei Kasanin, plans are quite ambitious:
— The demand for universal legislation is due to a number of economic and other factors: this is the transition from the model of the global economy to the construction of sustainable regions and mega-regions, high requirements for their cybersecurity in the context of information wars and digital attacks, the complimentary of professional competencies of specialists, including their training, cooperation and the formation of scientific and industrial hubs, as well as the creation of linear cross-border cooperation networks.

That is why now there is an active work on the model law on artificial intelligence for the CIS countries. Moreover, the competition for its development was won by IPIAN NAS of Belarus. And recently passed the first stage of work...
